LILACS - Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences LILACS is a bibliographic index of literature on health sciences, published in the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean since 1982. It is a cooperative product of the VHL Network. In 2009, LILACS has 500,000 thousand bibliographic records of articles published in about 1,500 journals in health science, from which approximately 800 are currently indexed. LILACS also indexes other types of scientific and technical literature such as theses, monographs, books and chapters of books, congress and conference proceedings, reports, governmental publications and regional international organizations publications. LILACS can be accessed for bibliographic search in the VHL Global Portal and records are also indexed in Google.
MEDLINE - International Database for Medical Literature MEDLINE is a database of international literature on the medical and biomedical area produced by NLM (National Library of Medicine, USA) and contains bibliographic references and abstracts to over 5,000 journal titles published in the United States and in other 70 countries. It contains references to articles published from 1966 to date, that cover the areas of: medicine, biomedicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine and related sciences. The database is monthly updated.
The Cochrane Library The Cochrane Library consists of a collection of updated information sources on evidence-based medicine, including the Cochrane Systematic Reviews database - containing systematic reviews prepared by the Cochrane Collaboration Groups. The access to the Cochrane Library via the VHL is available to the Latin America and Caribbean countries exclusively.
*Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews Systematic reviews produced by the Cochrane’s Collaborative Review Groups about the effects of healthcare. The reviews are highly structured and systematic, with evidence included or excluded on the basis of explicit quality criteria, to minimize bias. Data are often combined statistically (with meta-analysis) to increase the power of the findings of numerous studies, each too small to produce reliable results individually. Full text.

MEDCARIB - Caribbean Health Sciences Literature MEDCARIB is a bibliographic database that binds the literature in Health Sciences mainly originated in the english language countries of the Caribbean. It is produced by the Caribbean Network and coordinated by the Coordinator Center of MedCarib Network Medical Library from the University of West Indies (Mona, Kingston - Jamaica). It indexes documents such as books, chapters of books, theses, technical reports, annals of congresses and articles from journals. It also contains references to documents published from the 18th century to date.
PAHO - Collection of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) PAHO is a database that contains bibliographic references and abstracts from collection of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) headquarters Library. It includes the documentation on health subjects indexed by PAHO Library in Washington. The PAHO database is a reference source on the production activities of the Organization and includes Latin America and Caribbean health topics.
REPIDISCA - Sanitary Engineering and Environmental Sciences REPIDISCA is a database that contains bibliographic references to the Sanitary Engineering and Environmental Sciences literature, coordinated by CEPIS - Pan American Center for Sanitary Engineering and Environmental Sciences. From 1994 on it incorporated the registers of the ECO database - related to Human Ecology and Health. It includes the literature published in the Latin America and Caribbean countries.

LIS - Health Information Locator The Health Information Locator (LIS) is the Virtual Health Library portal which contains the catalogue of information sources on health sciences available on Internet and selected with quality criteria. The LIS record describes the content of these information sources and includes the respective links to them.The LIS methodology is the result of technical cooperation between the Centro Nacional de Información de Ciencias Médicas (CNICM), Red Telemática de Salud en Cuba (INFOMED) and BIREME.The LIS methodology follows currently accepted standards and formats adopted internationally by libraries and documentation centers to describe information sources on the Internet. It is based on the GILS (Global Information Locator Service) and the Dublin Core formats, with some additional data fields.
