ABCD (Automation of Libraries and Documentation Centers, from its name in Spanish and Portuguese) is a multilingual, Open Source, Web application for the management of libraries, containing core library functions such as acquisitions, cataloging, lending and database administration. It also includes an advanced lending module called EmpWeb.
The development of ABCD is promoted and coordinated by BIREME, with the support of VLIR and the collaboration of many people from different institutions and countries .

For Windows there are two installation packages available: assisted (Wizard) or unassisted (zip file). Both installers include Apache, PHP and Yaz) pre-configured for ABCD.
For Linux installation, the pre-requisites are not included. For more information about Linux pre-requisites click here.
How to contribute
At http://reddes.bvsaude.org/projects/abcd you will find information about the development schedule and the areas where you can participate/contribute. The site is based on the TRAC tool for version control and includes a wiki for for collaborative documentation. It is integrated with Subversion. Here you can contribute by informing about bugs, sending suggestions and even participate directly in the development work. VHL-Site is the application that manages the homepage of a VHL and integrates its information sources, allowing for the creation, maintenance and publishing of the site. The VHL model homepage is organized in areas such as: Information Sources: it is possible to access the content of a specific information source type, for example, bibliographic databases, full text, directories etc. Topics: it contains predefined queries as subjects. Specialized spaces or communities: information sources network organized in order to provide information to specialized user groups or profiles. The VHL homepage also has areas allocated for links to related VHL sites and/or institutions, news and highlights.
